PUPILS AND PARENTS FROM WALTON PRIORY MIDDLE COMPLETE A 5 MILE WALK

On Sunday 4th December 2011 Pupils and Parents from Walton Priory completed a 5 mile walk around the Shugborough Estate in support of the Katharine House Hospice. The Walk also showed our determination to enourage girls to continue with physical activity outside of school.

 

WALTON PRIORY STUDENTS TAKE PART IN A SPORTHALL ATHLETICS COMPETITION

Sportshall Athletics Competition at Sir Graham Balfour

On Wednesday 16th November 2011, Year 5 and 6 pupils from Walton Priory took part in a Sportshall Athletics Competition at Sir Graham Balfour. Eight Schools from three local clusters (Stone Schools, Sir Graham Balfour Schools and Weston Road schools) went head to head, competing in indoor field and track events as they battled to reach a place in the final.

Walton Priory had a very talented team. We are very proud that they came second overall on the evening and now go forward to the final which takes place on Tuesday 29th November 2011.

 

WALTON PRIORY PUPILS TAKE PART IN TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Pupils from Walton Priory took part in a table tennis tournament at Sir Graham Balfour school.
They competed against teams from Walton High School and Sir Graham Balfour.
Our boys team came third out of five teams with Anthony Hebb (seeded number 1) winning all but one of his games!
Their were only two girls teams competing in this competition and our girls played very well but unfortunately came runners up. Clare Sanders (seeded number 1) also fought for the title.

 

WALTON PRIORY 'TEE OFF' AT IZAAK WALTON GOLF CLUB

On Tuesday, 24th May, 10 pupils from year 5 and 6 represented Stafford and Stone at the County Tri Golf Finals. Izaak Walton Golf club hosted the event and 5 teams from across the County came face to face in a battle for the title. The scores were very close and we finished in second place with St Josephs (South Stoke- On- Trent) holding on to their 10 point lead. Congratulations to all those who took part and in particular to Izaak Walton for coaching our Pupils to become talented golfers. We are proud to be the winners across Stafford and Stone and wish St Josephs good luck in the West Midlands Final.

 

YEAR 7 DISTRICT CUP WINNERS

On Thursday 5th May Walton Priory Year 7 football team became winners of the District Cup by beating Sir Graham Balfour 1 – 0.  Jack Tomlinson scored the only goal in a very close match.
Congratulations to the whole squad who worked really hard together for their victory.

 

WALTON PRIORY PUPILS AT TEAM CHALLENGE REGIONAL FINALS

Four pupils from Walton Priory Middle School entered UK Mathematics Trust Team Maths Challenge Regional Final which was held recently at Keele University.  The aim of the competition is to promote mathematical dexterity, team working and communication skills for Year 8 and Year 9 pupils. The team consisted of Cameron Beattie, Katie O’Byrne, Emily Pontin and Daniel McVey (all year 8).
The main competition consisted of 4 rounds.

  • a group problem solving round
  • a cross number puzzle where half the team had the down clues and the other half had the across clues but they weren’t allowed to talk to each other.
  • a group circus round where they had a chance to gain bonus points for speed and accuracy against another school
  • and finally the rapid relay round which required you to able to do maths at speed

There were 29 state and independent schools in the competition and after a very challenging day the Walton Priory Team were placed fourth. Mr Pierzchalla headteacher of Walton Priory Middle school said” Yet again the pupils at Walton Priory show their superb mathematical skills, allied to teamwork and initiative to achieve significant success under pressurised conditions.  I am delighted with, and proud of, their success which is a result of the time and skill devoted to them by the teachers who support and inspire them”

 

WALTON PRIORY GIRLS TAKE PART IN A NETBALL MATCH

On Wednesday 23rd of March, 40 Walton Priory Girls took part in a netball match against Oldfields Middle School (Uttoxeter). It was fantastic to see over 80 children all competing on the courts at our school. We are proud of all those who played but congratulations need to go to the Year 5 and Year 7 team for winning their matches.

 

WALTON PRIORY STUDENTS TAKE PART IN A 6-ASIDE PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

On Tuesday 8th March, a team of year 6 pupils went to Powerleague Soccer Centre to take part in a 6-aside Premier League football tournament. The event was filmed by Sassy Productions for Disney and two of our Pupils had a filmed session with Rory Delap. It will be edited down to a feature piece which will be aired on the Disney Channel during May and June.

 

WALTON PRIORY STUDENTS TAKE PART IN 'TOP LINK CONFERENCE' AT STAFFORD COLLEGE

On Tuesday 1st March, 4 of our pupils spent the day at Stafford Sports College as part of the ‘Top Link Conference’ which celebrates the quality of our leaders and challenges our leaders to achieve even higher goals. They were selected by Miss Atherton due to their leadership potential.  They met with hundreds of other leaders across the County and beyond; taking part in numerous challenges and delivering them to each other. This was without doubt highly valuable to the group and as a result we hope that they take it upon themselves to lead some competitions throughout the summer months.

 

WALTON PRIORY ACHIEVES THE SILVER GEOGRAPHICAL ASSOCIATION'S PRIMARY GEOGRAPHY QUALITY MARK

Congratulations to Miss Emma Shannon and the pupils of Walton Priory on achieving the Silver Geographical Association’s Primary Geography Quality Mark.The Primary Geography Quality Mark is supported by the DfE through the Action Plan for Geography and is seen as a key strategy for raising the quality of geography in primary schools.

At Silver level the award is in recognition of the implementation of whole school approaches that support excellence in geography.

 

YEAR 6 PUPIL DYLAN KENNERELL-WALTERS WINS STAFFORDSHIRE E-SAFETY POSTER COMPETITION

Staffordshire Children’s ESafety Group from Christchurch Middle School in Stone recently organised an ESafety Competition for Year 5 and 6 pupils in Stone and Stafford.  The Group invited pupils to design a poster to help remind students, teachers and parents how to keep children safe on the Internet.
The ESafety Group, James, Alex, Anna and Katie supported by their ICT Teacher, Mrs Natalie Davies chose the winning design from over 100 entries.
Dylan Kennerell-Walters from Year 6 at Walton Priory Middle School was the winner. He will now see his design printed and his school has received £200 prize money which was presented by the ESafety Group at a special assembly at Walton Priory.
The poster will be distributed to all Primary and Middle Schools in Staffordshire.

 

CRAZY CATCH AND DANCE MAT CHALLENGE

Young Leaders at Walton Priory take on the challenge of delivering crazy catch and dance mat challenges across the First Schools in Stone. They hope to develop their leadership qualites and also want to increase competitative opportunities for our young people of Stone.

 

NATIONAL SCHOOL SPORT DANCE

At 11.40 a.m. on 19th January 2011, schools from across the country took part in a National School Sport Dance. The event was designed to celebrate the power of school sport in uniting people, set a world record and to showcase the strength of School Sport Partnership Network. Our Year 7 pupils proved its success! Over 100,000 pupils in the UK took part.

 

COUNTY INDOOR SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS COMPETITION

County indoor sportshall athletics competition

Year 7 Boys represent stafford and stone in the County indoor sportshall athletics competition held at Fenton Manor. The team finished in 6th place out of 13 teams from areas such as Rugeley, Staffordshire Moorlands, Cannock, Uttoxeter and Stoke on Trent. Walton Priory are very proud of their achievement!

Walton Priory Middle School pupil Jack Taylor was given the opportunity to show off his culinary skills at this year’s Stone Food and Drink Festival. 12 year old Jack was chosen after getting through to the final of Stone Rotary Young Chef of the year 2009. Jack’s strong stage presence really made an impression which is why he was asked to demonstrate his cooking skills before this year’s special guests The Hairy Bikers.
